Pink Floyd has been named the most popular tattoo choice among rock fans, according to a new study.
The research, conducted by tattoo artists at LLTattoo, analyzed search data using Google Keyword Planner to determine which rock bands inspire the most tattoos worldwide. The results reflect the lasting influence of iconic rock acts, including some surprising contenders.
Taking the top spot, Pink Floyd emerged as the band with the most tattoo-inspired searches. With origins in 1960s London, the legendary group averaged 13,000 monthly searches for tattoos depicting or inspired by their imagery.
Coming in second place was Guns N’ Roses, with tattoos featuring Slash and the band averaging 10,675 searches per month.
Rammstein, the German alt-metal titans, claimed third place. Searches for tattoos inspired by the Berlin-based band reached an average of 10,558 monthly.
In fourth place, Metallica tattoos garnered 9,367 average monthly searches, while Nirvana followed closely in fifth place with 9,150 searches.
Linkin Park, the California nu-metal band that rose to fame in the mid-90s, ranked sixth with 8,425 searches per month for tattoos dedicated to them. In seventh place, Iowa’s heavy metal icons Slipknot inspired 7,900 monthly tattoo-related searches.
The alt-rock duo Twenty One Pilots landed in eighth place, with tattoos related to the Ohio-based band receiving an average of 7,775 searches monthly.
Ninth place went to Iron Maiden, the iconic English heavy metal group, with 7,125 searches for tattoos reflecting their influence. Progressive metal band Tool rounded out the top ten, with 6,200 monthly searches for tattoos inspired by their work.
Commenting on the study, Mentor Dedaj of LLTattoo said: “It’s fascinating to see which rock bands inspire the most tattoos worldwide. Rock music and tattoos seem to go hand in hand, and for many dedicated fans, ink is almost a requirement.
“While some of these results were expected based on our studio experience, there are definitely a few surprising inclusions in the top ten and some notable bands missing from the list.”
