Big Brother Naija ‘Level Up’ winner Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has opened up about the meaning behind the Phoenix tattoo on her back, sharing her emotional journey with her followers. The reality star took to Instagram to post a video showcasing the tattoo, explaining that it represents more than just ink on her skin—it is a powerful symbol of her personal growth and resilience.
Phyna described the tattoo as a testament to her strength, transformation, and the challenges she’s overcome. She explained that the Phoenix represents the fire she endured, the wings she earned, and her determination to rise above life’s hardships. According to Phyna, the tattoo embodies the flames she walked through and serves as a reminder of the limitless potential within her.
“This phoenix on my back isn’t just ink; it’s a testament to my journey,” Phyna wrote. “It symbolizes resilience, strength, and transformation—the fire I walked through and the wings I earned. Life tried to break me, but like the Phoenix, I chose to rise, rebuild, and soar higher than before.”
She further shared that each part of the tattoo, from the flames to the feathers, tells a story of rebirth and empowerment. “No matter how many times I fall, I can always rise again—stronger, wiser, and more powerful,” she added. “This tattoo is more than art; it’s a part of me. A tribute to my past, a celebration of my present, and a reminder of the infinite potential of my future.”
Phyna’s post comes just days after she publicly revealed that she had dropped her family’s surname. The reality star explained that she felt disconnected from her family, stating that it seemed as though no one truly knew her or understood her past. Reflecting on her childhood struggles, Phyna expressed that she was in a place where she could not find the words to describe the emotional toll it had taken on her.
The timing of her post follows recent tensions with her family. Last year, Phyna’s father gave an interview in which he claimed that she had abandoned him after her Big Brother Naija win. He accused her of making promises she didn’t keep and stated that they hadn’t seen each other since her victory. Phyna responded publicly, criticizing the media outlet for bothering her with calls and messages. She revealed that it was the first time in her life that she cried over such a situation, expressing how deeply it had affected her.
Amidst the family drama, comedian DeeOne also weighed in on the situation, offering Phyna’s father N500,000 and seemingly taking a swipe at the reality star. He advised Phyna to stop living a “fake life,” adding fuel to the ongoing family feud.
Phyna, however, continues to stand strong, using her Phoenix tattoo as a powerful reminder of her resilience and personal growth.
