Bella Thomson, known online as Bella Brave, was a social media sensation and a symbol of hope for sick children worldwide. Alongside her mother, Kyla, Bella garnered 7.5 million followers on TikTok, raising funds for the Ronald McDonald House and spreading positivity to millions.
Bella, who suffered from three rare disorders, including an autoimmune condition, passed away in July, leaving her family and followers heartbroken. However, her legacy continues, as does the fundraising in her name.
In Saskatoon, The Shop tattoo parlor hosted a fundraiser to honor Bella’s memory. Co-owner Sheena Baldo worked closely with Bella’s family to organize this event. “We’ve been working with her family to create a fundraiser,” Baldo shared.
Friends and family gathered to memorialize Bella with tattoos inspired by her. “All the tattoos are inspired by Bella—some are her drawings, and others are quotes that reflect her spirit,” Baldo said.
Kyla Thomson, Bella’s mother, attended with her arm covered in tattoos dedicated to her daughter. Though her grief is still raw, Kyla finds comfort in the community’s enduring support. “As a bereaved mom, losing my daughter, I feel friends and strangers continue to talk about her, and that brings so much healing,” she expressed.
One tattoo held special meaning for Kyla: “It says, ‘Dear Mom, we all love you, and don’t forget us.’ Then she crosses out ‘us’ and writes ‘me,’ which is really funny if you knew her sense of humor,” Kyla explained.
Bella’s story has inspired families facing similar challenges. “I just aspire to be as brave as they were,” said Ashley Hobbins, who met Bella through her own child’s journey in Toronto.
The Shop is donating most of the event’s proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House, ensuring that Bella Brave’s mission lives on.
