Claiming the title of the “worst tattoo” is no small feat, but TikTok user Marie Armstrong insists her recent ink is an absolute eyesore. Marie, who already sports multiple tattoos, says she struggles daily to hold back tears over a tiny half-peeled banana tattooed on her finger.
In a video posted to TikTok in February, Marie shared her story, explaining that she had never regretted a tattoo—until this one. About a year ago, she had a banana tattooed on her finger, but it quickly faded, which she acknowledged is common with finger tattoos. Other ink on her fingers had required multiple touch-ups to stick.
“But this one faded completely, immediately after I got it,” Marie explained, adding that it was so faded she didn’t even count it as a tattoo anymore.
When her boyfriend mentioned he had a tattoo appointment with a highly recommended artist, Marie saw it as the perfect opportunity to get her banana tattoo redone. However, things didn’t go as planned.
Marie recalled that when they arrived at the shop, the staff mostly spoke Spanish, which she couldn’t understand. Confident that the design was simple enough, she showed the artist a picture of the banana and allowed him to freehand it.
To her horror, the final result left her nearly in tears. “I’m trying not to cry,” Marie said, expressing her disappointment. “I know these are small, goofy tattoos, but I actually care about how they look.”
She went on to explain that she had loved her original banana tattoo, and the new version was a huge letdown. Hoping for a repeat of her first experience, Marie admitted that she was intentionally neglecting the tattoo in the hopes that it would fade just as quickly.
In her video, Marie revealed the new ink—a less detailed, half-peeled banana that she described as unrecognizable. “This is a joke,” she vented. “You can’t even tell it’s a banana. It’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
While her boyfriend’s tattoos turned out great, having been done by the shop owner, Marie’s wasn’t as fortunate. After emailing photos of the botched tattoo to the shop owner, he advised her to let it heal and promised to fix it once the scabbing was done. Marie remains uncertain about what to do next.
“I have the world’s ugliest banana tattoo on my finger,” she concluded humorously, ending her video with the word “Slay.”
The comments section on TikTok was filled with reactions from users, many of whom couldn’t believe the outcome. One user joked, “It kind of looks like the thumbs from Spy Kids lol.”
Others reassured Marie that it wasn’t as bad as she thought. “Honestly, it’s not even that bad—I barely see a difference,” one user commented. Another added, “I was expecting something horrible, but it isn’t that bad.”
Despite the varied opinions, Marie is left contemplating her next steps with what she deems the “world’s ugliest banana tattoo.”
