Renowned One Direction tattoo artists, RunningWaterTattoo, are offering free tattoos in tribute to Liam Payne following his tragic death.
RunningWaterTattoo, known for following artists’ tours and tattooing fans from hotel rooms, expressed their heartbreak over Liam’s passing. Speaking to The Mirror, they said: “We are absolutely devastated by the news. One Direction changed our lives, and we feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this fandom. It’s surreal to lose 1/5 of the band we love so dearly and hoped to see live one day.”
Though they never had the chance to tour with Liam, the artists tattooed his fans during tours with other members of One Direction. They added, “The fandom will never be the same. Our hearts go out to Liam’s family, friends, and the entire One Direction family, including Louis, Niall, Harry, Zayn, and all the fans.”
On Instagram, the tattoo group announced their plan to offer free Liam Payne-themed tattoos. They posted on their story: “If you already have an appointment for the upcoming tour dates, we will be offering Liam tattoos free of charge.”
RunningWaterTattoo typically offers tattoos based on a themed flash sheet related to the artist they are following. Their next planned tour is with Taylor Swift for the final leg of her Eras Tour, as Swift’s and One Direction’s fanbases significantly overlap.
Katie Kost, the CEO of RunningWaterTattoo, previously told The Mirror: “Louis Tomlinson is my favorite artist, and I was going to follow him on tour regardless. Tattooing on tour wasn’t conceived as a business idea or for profit.”
She further explained, “Music and live shows have always been my greatest passion. That’s how I met my best friends, who are also tattoo artists, at concerts. Combining tattooing, traveling, making new friends, and attending shows felt like a dream come true, and we were inspired to make it a reality.”
Liam Payne tragically passed away on October 16, after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina. Reports indicate he was acting erratically in the hotel lobby prior to the incident, including smashing a laptop. He was later escorted to his room before a 9-1-1 call was made, alleging he was “on drugs.”
