Angelina Jolie recently revealed that she has a matching tattoo with her daughter, Vivienne. In an interview with CR Fashion Book, the actor and director discussed her sustainable clothing store, Atelier Jolie, which also features a café run by refugees and immigrant chefs. During the conversation, she shared details about her latest tattoo.
“I got ‘Stay Gold’ with my daughter Viv during our time with The Outsiders,” Jolie explained. “It means so much to us separately and together. There is also a bird that I share with some of my children that is personal to us.”
Jolie has six children with her ex-husband Brad Pitt: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16.
The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton and published in 1967, tells a coming-of-age story about two rival gangs, the “Greasers” and the “Socs,” divided by socioeconomic status. The book was adapted into a film in 1983 and later a Broadway musical that premiered in April.
Both Jolie and Vivienne contributed to the Broadway production, with Jolie serving as a lead producer and her daughter as an assistant. The phrase “stay gold” is significant in the story, being both a character’s last words and a song title in the musical.
Jolie has previously discussed working alongside her daughter, noting that Vivienne introduced her to the new musical. “She saw an early workshop a few times and then invited me to it,” Jolie said. “She has been there to assist in any way she can and has learned so much from [score and co-book writer] Justin Levine and the whole creative team.”
In another interview, Jolie described Vivienne as a “tough assistant.” “She’ll correct me,” she remarked. “She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo? We have to do this. We have to go through this.’”
Although Vivienne and her twin brother Knox are still in high school, Jolie has plans for the future after they turn 18. In a recent interview, she discussed her family dynamics amid her ongoing divorce from Pitt, revealing her intentions to move once the twins reach adulthood.
“I have to be here from a divorce,” Jolie explained. “But as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.” She plans to travel extensively, starting with Cambodia, where she adopted Maddox in 2002.
“I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” she noted, expressing a desire to visit family members around the world. “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety,” she added, reflecting on her early travels and the connections she seeks. “I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”
