Nicole Kidman’s hopes of reconciling with her estranged son, Connor Cruise, seem increasingly unlikely. The actress, 57, now fears she has lost him to Scientology for good, following a recent development that underscores his commitment to the religion.
As reported, Kidman is deeply concerned after Connor, 29, revealed a new tattoo symbolizing his devotion to Scientology. The tattoo, which reads “1938” and is inked on his arm, is believed to reference the first mention of Scientology by its founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
A source said, “Nicole’s ache for her son is very real and extremely painful. Seeing Connor double down on his devotion to Scientology with a permanent inking on his body will be hard for her to take.”
The new ink allegedly signifies Connor’s elevated status within the church, possibly marking him as a significant figure, which adds to Kidman’s distress. Both Connor and his sister Isabella have been devoted Scientologists since their parents’ divorce in 2001, maintaining a distance from their mother, purportedly due to her designation as a “Suppressive Person” within the church.
“Nicole knows Connor and Bella are enveloped in their dad’s religion and will always respect that,” the source added. “She had hoped they might grow out of it once they got older or at least give her the opportunity to explain. However, if Connor is being earmarked for a senior role in the organization, Nicole knows she has probably lost him forever.”
Nicole Kidman has previously stated that she prefers to keep her relationship with her children private. Despite this, Tom Cruise and Connor have been seen attending sporting events together on occasion.
Connor has three younger half-sisters, while Kidman is also mother to Sunday, 16, and Faith, 14, whom she shares with her husband, Keith Urban, 56. Tom Cruise shares daughter Suri, 18, with ex-wife Katie Holmes, 45.
