The Virginia International Tattoo is just days away, and this year’s event promises to be especially significant, as it commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.

A key focus of this year’s Tattoo is paying tribute to 250 years of service and sacrifice. Right from the opening moments, the performance will celebrate and honor the rich history of these three branches of the U.S. military.

Morgan Ramirez, a Navy musician, expressed his excitement about the upcoming performances. “It really brings it home to, ‘Wow, we’re celebrating 250 years,’” Ramirez shared.

As a signature event of the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission, the Virginia International Tattoo serves as a reminder of Virginia’s pivotal role in the 250th anniversary of American independence.

“This is a big year for us, not only here but all across the country,” said Lt. Bernardo Miethe, executive officer for the Training and Doctrine Command.

The Virginia Arts Festival emphasized that every performance would be a heartfelt tribute to the soldiers, sailors, and Marines who have dedicated their lives to service.

“We’re here to show everyone what we do every day and what the Army represents,” Miethe added.

Both Ramirez and Miethe teased that there would be some exciting surprises for attendees.

“[It’s] such a big milestone for the United States Navy,” Ramirez said. “And it’s incredible to celebrate alongside performers from other countries as well.”

For Ramirez, this event holds extra personal significance. He explained that the Navy runs deep in his family, with three generations having served.

“My grandpa on my dad’s side joined the Navy back in the Philippines. He served on a submarine, first as a steward, then as a mess specialist, and eventually as a culinary specialist. My dad also joined, serving as a Navy nurse for 30 years.”

The Virginia International Tattoo will take place at Scope Arena from April 24-27, offering a powerful salute to military service and sacrifice.
