Dax Shepard became emotional after seeing Dove Cameron’s hand tattoo dedicated to her late father, breaking down in tears during her appearance on his Armchair Expert podcast.
The Baby Mama actor, 50, revealed he was deeply moved when he noticed the ink on Dove’s right hand. The tattoo, which reads “We’ll be friends forever,” is a heartfelt tribute to the Descendants actress’s father, Philip Alan Hosterman, who tragically died by suicide in 2011 when Dove was just 15 years old.
“You did make me cry today though because I was seeing the tattoo that you got,” Dax told Dove, now 29, during their conversation.
He explained that the words struck a personal chord with him, as he frequently shares a similar sentiment with his own daughters—Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10.
“I have little girls that I say that same thing to all the time,” he said. “If they had to tattoo that on them at some point, because something went sideways… you know, it was just heartbreaking.”
Dax added, “I say it to them, like, almost every day on the way to school. Like, ‘You know, we’re going to be best friends for the rest of your life — the rest of my life.'”
Clearly touched, Dove responded to his reaction with gratitude and empathy.
“I truly was best friends with my dad,” she shared. “He tried his best.”
The exchange between the two stars created a powerful moment of vulnerability and connection, resonating with many listeners.
