The anglerfish that surfaced and later perished near Tenerife has become a viral sensation, prompting many Gen-Z individuals to get the sea creature tattooed on their skin.
When a female anglerfish appeared off the coast of Tenerife, few bystanders realized they were witnessing the death of a deep-sea creature. Normally living about 6,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, the fish was an unusual sight. Yet, days after the creature surfaced, it was reborn as the latest trend among Gen-Z.
As a result, some fans of the anglerfish have decided to immortalize the creature with tattoos. One user proudly displayed a detailed anglerfish tattoo on their ankle, sharing the design in a video accompanied by dramatic music and captions.
“What if this fish was a tattoo?” asked TikToker Benji. “After a life in darkness, I will find the light, even if it’s the last thing I do.”
A more intricate tattoo of the anglerfish appeared on @ameratattoo’s page, garnering tens of thousands of views. This design, located on her upper arm, featured a black ink sketch of the fish with spiky teeth and a fierce expression.
Amera and Benji are far from the only ones getting anglerfish tattoos. Many Gen-Zers are following suit, opting for similar designs. Numerous commenters have also expressed their fascination with the trend.
“‘For my last day, I think I’ll go see the sun,'” Amera captioned her tattoo. “In memory of the anglerfish… RIP.”
