A 24-year-old man in China has undergone the painful process of having his facial tattoos removed after struggling to find employment and facing societal rejection due to his radical inkings.
Xiaolong, from Liaoning province in northeastern China, has been heavily tattooed since 2018. His ink covers his neck, arms, and other parts of his body, with the most notable feature being a large, detailed skull tattoo that spans much of his head and face.
Once a rebellious teenager, Xiaolong now speaks out about the challenges he’s faced in finding work due to his tattoos. He shared with South China Morning Post (SCMP) that the tattoos have made it difficult to secure a job and have led to constant insults during his livestream sessions. Routine activities like renewing his ID or using facial recognition have also become awkward and inconvenient.
As a result, Xiaolong decided to take the difficult step of deleting his social media accounts and traveling to Changzhou for the painful process of tattoo removal.
“This is one of the toughest tattoo removals I’ve ever handled,” Xiaolong said. The process was so excruciating that he had to pause treatment for health reasons. He expressed deep regret over his decision to get the tattoos, stating, “What seemed cool in the moment does not hold up in the long run. I just want to live a normal life again.”
