It’s not uncommon for parents to get tattoos of their children’s names, but Orlando Bloom took a unique approach to honor his firstborn son, Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr. Rather than simply tattooing his son’s name, Bloom decided to have Flynn’s name spelled out in Morse code.
In a black-and-white Instagram photo, Bloom showcased his tattoo, which featured “010620110903” (the date and time of Flynn’s birth) alongside Morse code intended to spell “Flynn.” However, fans quickly pointed out a mistake in the code, as it read “Frynn” instead of “Flynn.”
A week later, Bloom’s tattoo artist, Balazs Bercsenyi, addressed the issue in a follow-up Instagram post. “Round 2 with @orlandobloom + we added the missing dot to the Morse code,” Bercsenyi wrote. The post showed a corrected version of the tattoo, where the addition of a single dot fixed the “R” to an “L.” Bercsenyi humorously added, “Conclusion: never fully trust what your clients find on Pinterest.”
This was not the first tattoo Bloom has gotten. He has several, including a notable one celebrating his role in The Lord of the Rings films. Bloom, who portrayed the elf Legolas, has the word “nine” in Elvish inked on his wrist, a tattoo he shared on Instagram in 2018. Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, told ABC News, “We felt the experience was both wonderful enough and profound enough to have ourselves branded, so we went ahead and did that about a week before we finished.”
Although it’s unclear whether Bloom plans to get more tattoos to commemorate his films or children, he has already received a “small one in memory of Sidi, his dog,” as Bercsenyi mentioned in his post.
Bloom and fiancée Katy Perry welcomed a daughter in 2020, but Bloom hasn’t yet gotten a tattoo to celebrate her. If he does decide to do so, he’ll likely double-check the spelling—no matter the language.
