At 99 years old, most people wouldn’t expect Hilda West to be collecting tattoos, but that’s exactly what she’s doing as she prepares for her 100th birthday!

Hilda, a British woman, first got a tattoo in 2019 to honor her late husband, Ernest, and her son, David. At the age of 94, she had the initials of her loved ones inked on her wrist.

Since then, she added a three-inch butterfly on her arm as a tribute to her husband. Now, with her 100th birthday approaching, Hilda has announced plans to get another tattoo to mark the milestone.

“After getting my first one, I immediately knew I wanted a second,” she said. “I decided to get a butterfly in memory of my husband. I’ve always liked butterflies, and I was so happy with my first tattoo that I thought, why not?”

“It didn’t hurt, and now I want another one to celebrate turning 100. I’m thinking of getting a peacock this time.”

Getting tattoos was always something Hilda had on her bucket list.

“But my daughter was against it, so I decided to wait until she was away,” she explained. “When I came back with my first tattoo, her reaction was, ‘Did they make you do this?’ Well, no, they didn’t. It was my idea.”

She also shared that she didn’t feel any pain during the process. “The tattoo artist had never worked with someone as old as me. He said, ‘Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you.’ I don’t really feel pain, I’m lucky that way.”

Hilda is thrilled with her tattoos. “I’m very happy with it. I thought it would look nice, and it does. I’m very pleased with it. I look at them every day and think of my husband and son. It makes me feel complete, and I’ve got something I’ve always wanted.”
