Tattoos often reflect personal stories or moments in life, and one woman’s latest ink suggests she was experiencing heartbreak.
She recently shared her tattoo on social media, revealing an intricate design featuring a heart that appears broken and then patched together with another piece. The fragment that had broken off was visible beneath the now-broken heart, a design choice that some believe she might come to regret.
The tattoo went viral, but not for the reasons one might expect. Viewers quickly noticed a significant flaw in the design. The heart, stitched back together, displays the name ‘Steve,’ with the ‘st’ in a grey half-heart and the ‘ve’ in red. However, the broken piece underneath, also in red, features the letters ‘lo’ in the center.
This led to widespread confusion about whether the tattoo was meant to read ‘Steve’ or ‘Stove.’ Many users struggled to understand the intended message, which was supposed to be ‘Lost Love.’
The design’s execution drew criticism from many who felt it lacked clarity. Reactions poured in on the Facebook group “That’s It, I’m Inkshaming (Actually Bad Tattoos),” where users expressed their confusion and frustration.
One user suggested, “Should’ve done it the other way around so it says ‘Lost Love.'” Another admitted, “I literally didn’t know what it was supposed to say until your comment.” A third commented, “I was super confused—I needed the comments to see what it’s supposed to say. Steve, stove… lost was not on the list.”
A fourth user lamented, “Every time this is shared—and it is a lot—I STILL see Steve… not Lost Love, and it drives me nuts that it’s not actually Steve at all at this point.”
A fifth person criticized the design, stating simply, “Horrible execution.”
