Derry is gearing up to host its 12th international tattoo convention this weekend.

The Maiden City Ink event will take place at the Everglades Hotel from Friday, July 26th, to Sunday, July 28th.

Zac Deeney from Skin Art Derry, who is organizing the event, is excited about what has become Northern Ireland’s most popular tattoo convention.

“We have 60 artists coming from all over Ireland, as well as the UK and abroad, including Italy,” Deeney said. “The lineup changes every year with new artists, offering a diverse range of styles for attendees to explore.”

Deeney noted, “It’s always great to see the variety of artists and their unique styles. Each year brings something new, and the event continues to grow in popularity. I wish we had a larger venue because it keeps getting busier and better.”

Entry to the event is just £5. Deeney encourages visitors to check out the artwork and explore the various artists. Attendees can also pre-book sessions with artists or choose to walk up on the day to discuss their tattoo ideas.

Deeney, who has been in the tattoo industry for over 30 years, is impressed by the advancements in tattoo art. “Tattoos are becoming increasingly detailed, especially with realistic styles that resemble paintings,” he said. “Artists share techniques and ideas, which enriches the craft. Some of the work I see is truly amazing.”

The Maiden City Ink convention opens at 10am on Friday. Admission is payable at the door, with no tickets required, and the event is open to those aged 18 and over.
